PEST CONTROL ON THE MANGAWHAI WILDLIFE REFUGE

From April 2022 DOC has responsibility for Predator Control on the distal spit to help protect our native birds and plants.

The dunes are a haven for the highly endangered New Zealand Fairy Tern, as well as foreign migratory birds, NZ and Banded Dotterels, Caspian and White Fronted Terns, Variable Oyster Catchers and others.​
